Make sure that you have permission to do so, however, from the office there before making any alterations. The added locks are often an unexpected obstacle to those who would want to gain unlawful entry to your place.

Having people nearby who can help you can be an attractive security benefit in an apartment. Remember that when and if dangerous situations arise, make escape your primary goal immediately.
